Lupus nephritis (LN) is an inflammation of the kidneys caused by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a disease of the immune system. Lupus nephritis is the main complication and death cause of systemic lupus erythematosus.

SLE is widespread all over the world. People between 20 and 50 are more likely to suffer such disease and female are more likely to suffer SLE than male. Almost all the patients with SEL have renal lesions to the various extents, so that Lupus nephritis is regarded as the most important disease among the secondary kidney disease.
